The Nate Green Experience

7 Things Currently Rocking My World

Gadgets, Beer, The Food Revolution, T-Shirts, and Ways to Break Your Neck

It's been workout, workout, workout the last few weeks so I figured it was about time to share some other stuff I'm stoked about. (And at 24, I get stoked about a lot of random stuff.) So, this is a short list of things that are rocking my world right now.

Beer tasting with friends

We like to think we're being sophisticated—"Do you get a little of roasted coffee and chocolate on the finish?—but really we're just hanging out, drinking beer, and shooting the shit. I imagine it's kinda like what girls do when they do their makeup together or something—it's bonding in a very loose sense. Somehow you can talk more shit and have deeper conversations if you've got a drink in your hand. It's less threatening.

On average, there are four or five guys (anything less and it's not a tasting, but a beer-drinking session) and we base our beer selection on a theme. This week was porters and stouts. Last week was "beers from the Northeast." The week before was "Non-US beers." Every guy brings a bottle or two (usually the big 22oz bottles), which we split.

We aim to meet once per week as anything more would probably result in a) fights, b) drunkenness, and c) taking home fat chicks.

None of which are good things.

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

I don't watch much TV (I don't even have basic cable), but I make it a point to watch this show once per week on HULU. It's both fascinating and frustrating. Watch the trailer below to see what I mean.

Gymboss digital timer

The clock in my gym doesn't have a second-hand and I don't own a sports watch, so I use the Gymboss timer when I do intervals, jump rope, or density fat-loss workouts. It's cheap, indestructible, and way sexier than a kitchen timer.

My basic, no-BS phone

The last time I visited the Verizon store it took me ten minutes to convince the salesperson that I wanted a phone that just made calls. No e-mail, no Internet, no games, no nothin'. Just calls and texts.

It's gray, ugly, and a little blocky, but I don't feel tethered to it. Plus I'm not checking my Facebook updates or e-mail inbox every 42 seconds.

Here's a picture of it in all its glory. Ain't it pretty?

Organic Humblecock Tee's

They look and feel amazing. Super-soft and show off your muscles, just in time for summer. Check out the new styles here. (Note: I've been told from the guys at HC that the new stuff is on pre-order and will ship on the 14th of this month. And they only made 48 of each. Grab 'em quick before they sell out.)

Goat cheese

My younger brother and his friend stayed at my house last week, so, like a good brother, I made them breakfast in the morning: scrambled eggs with basil, garlic sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese.

The little bastards wouldn’t eat it! (Not with the goat cheese, any way.)

Do yourself a favor, go to your local health food store (aka the hippie store) and pick up a small sampling of organic goat cheese. Sprinkle it over your scrambled eggs or put it inside some chicken with sun-dried tomatoes and onions. Delicious.

I know you guys will appreciate it. Sheesh.

Longboarding!

Go ahead and laugh, but I used to be a skateboard punk. A few years and a bunch of rolled ankles later, I'm now one of those creepy/cool guys who carves down residential streets on a long-board instead.

This was the best $100 bucks I spent all last summer; I know it'll be worth it again this year. Just watch out for speed wobbles while going down hills.

I like your list Nate, very interesting and unique stuff. I've been thinking about getting rid of my crackberry for a while now, things a bitch and really starting to get on my nerves.

    Things rocking my world:

    1. The Nate Green Experience - there's always useful and interesting content Nate, you've got a great thing going here.

    2. Leather notebook - spent $20 on amazon on a few hundred blank pages to write on. Sounds useless but it's helped a lot. My notes are more structured and I'm not just tossing them out like I was, or losing them because I was using budget notebooks or scraps.

    3. 4HWW revised and updated - just bought it a week ago and am loving it, even better than the first version.

    4. My site - the writing aspect of it. I'm learning a ton through working on articles, helping people out with their training.

    5. White Collar - not a big TV watcher either, but I liked "catch me if you can" with hanks and dicaprio and this is along the same lines, good show, worth watching.

Great job with the phone, I did the same thing after breaking a touchscreen. Life is so much more simple when all my phone does is call and text.

That which rocketh my world presently:

    1. Warmer weather returning (and all the "scenery" that comes with it.)

    2. Like many of y'all, I'm sick of the reality TV takeover (except for Jamie Oliver's show), but I've found some solace in FX's new series "Justified". It's good ol' fashioned good-guy, bad-guy, shoot em up fun. Check it out on Tuesdays or online.

    3. Exactly one month until Iron Man 2 hits theaters. Big action, cool characters, and Scarlett Johansson....in leather.....need I say more?

    4. Baseball is back in full swing. Go Cards!

    5. Just started B.F.S. Winter Phase this week. It hurts soooo good.

oh my heavens, goats cheese....anything with goats cheese, spinach or butternut squash and I'm in culinary heaven

What be rocking my world right now? - It all pretty old stuff, but nonetheless.

My Foam Roller - makes me feel awesome after a hard session, or just in front of the TV on a rest day.

My Camelbak - makes any long run or ruck in the sun much, much easier, plus I think it looks kinda cool ;)

Grass fed beef - made the switch recently, god this stuff is delicious, not to add more healthy to boot!

My family and freinds - they are awesome :)

I'm mostly just digging the weather and watching my web traffic grow. But really, it's just the weather. MN can be the biggest b*tch from Nov. - Apr. It'll almost be 70 this weekend!

I've too recently discovered Jamie Oliver's show. I meant to watch it again last Friday, but I forgot about it. So, I've scheduled it in my agenda for this week.

Speaking of Jamie Oliver, he did a lecture at TED. So good. See it at http://www.ted.com/talks/jamie_oliver.html. It's even captioned (in multiple of languages!), which was perfect for me. His use of visual examples are just great.

Nate, you do longboarding? I've long wanted to try it out. Would you mind doing a quick 101 on how to take up longboarding? What to look for when buying one? How to learn how to do it properly?

I'm totally enjoying the warm, sunny , clear days that we've been having. Having a sunroof on these days are just the greatest. I think I've become an addict to this kind of weather! I can only imagine how much more perfect it'd be if I knew how to longboard.

I gotta agree with you on the phone thing. It's comforting to know that someone else in the world just needs their phone for calling. And I'm pretty excited for the Humblecock tee's. You got me hooked on 'em.

Oh here's what's rocking my world lately: a pilot episode of "My Deaf Family" launched by Marlee Matlin. It's a like a Deaf version of "Little People, Big World". But, no tv networks are willing to put it on tv! Take a look at it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-Gc85nQK8w

Golf is rocking my world as it always does this time of year. It's the game that you hate to love. Much like working out, satisfaction is not in the vocabulary and you are always looking/searching/studying for ways to improve. Some days you go out and it seems effortless to put a good round together, and then the next day out you feel like a total spaz. You swear that you're going quit and never play again......until the next time.

"Rocking My World" sounds ghey, might want to rethink that.

Cool list Nate! Food Revolution seems like an interesting (and needed) show. I'm pretty pissed off about the whole food industry BS within this country. We need a revolution because over 70% of what people are eating is not even real food... it's pseudo food.

It just amazes me how ignorant most people are when it comes to nutrition. Blows my mind.

    Keep rockin it!

Great list, I think i might check out the food revolution show. Props on the phone i have the same one except i am still a caveman and do not text. You also became about 100x cooler in my book, because of your former life as a skateboard punk. Keep writing please.

    1. Eric Cressey's Maximum Strength Program

    2. Rogue Fitness Bumper Plates and Bar

    3. Netflix documentaries like 'Wild China' and 'Guns, Germs, and Steel'.

    4. A 70lb Ader Kettlebell

    5. Iron Master 75lb Adjustable dumbbells

    6. Sawtooth Ale from Bitterroot Brewery (and their 'whim' brews on tap)

    7. Cordyceps (look it up)

I'm stuck on two books. They are really rocking my world.

    1. The Mission, The Men and Me. "Lessons from a former Delta Force Commander" by Pete Blaber

    2. The Power of less "The fine art of limiting yourself to the essential.... In business and in life" by Leo Babauta.

    1. Warm weather and being outside.

    2. Carb cycling program (You actually showed me this)

    3. Call Of Duty (I'm not a big video game person but my buds and I play in our free time)

    4. Graduation approaching, I'm getting pretty pumped to see where I go next.

By the way the Jamie Oliver show looks pretty good.

Nate, you convinced me to ditch the IPhone goddamit lol

I find myself constantly checking emails, facebook, my forums etc and theres just no need, its just to fill time and quite frankly I could be concentrating on what I should be doing (relaxing!).

Gonna grab me a phone that has no internet or email access and give this a shot!

    Great post as usual.

Haha, I go to this health food store near my house and call it Hippie Mart! And I'm with you on the phone as well, it's pretty annoying trying to talk to someone as they are looking down at their blackberry!

One of my psychology profs once told me that facebook and blackberries are empty emotional "calories", the Mcdonalds of relationships, while actually hanging out with close friends are nutritious calories, the grass fed beef of relationships.

Love the blog and the people who follow it!

That phone looks like the one I just bought. I'm glad I'm not the only person out there who has a nice, basic phone. As someone who works on a computer, I just don't see the need for an iPhone, Droid, or whatever the "it" thing is now.

    Things Rocking my World:

-iPod Nano. As low weight as you can get, ideal for weight-room listening.

-Spring. The weather is fantastic right now. I've already managed to get a bit burnt, but am spending at least an hour in the sun everyday.

-Jumping rope. I've started to slowly add cardio to my workouts to shift into fat loss mode for summer--I am usually short on time by the time I get through weights, so this is the fastest way to get the heart-rate going and completely exhaust myself.

-PassiveAggressiveNotes.com--this website never fails to give me a good chuckle when I need it

I think I have the same phone as you. Simple.

Lately though I have realized that I carry an ipod, netbook, sometimes a gps, camera, flip video, daytimer....

So I am strongly considering an iPhone. The question is, wouldn't that make a lot of sense for someone as busy as you as well?
