Are You Like Most Guys?
This is not most guys.
Most guys are physically weak and only "work out" when they're feeling particularly bad about staying up all night drinking and oogling women they'd never have a chance with.
Most guys spend more money on beer than they do on quality food. (And it's piss-beer, at that.)
Most guys have absolutely no idea what kind of body women find attractive.
Most guys are in debt up to their eyeballs and have no way to get out. They then spend money on frivolous, materialistic crap and end up paying 18% interest on something that cost $9.50.
Most guys who have the means skimp on nice clothing and dress like homeless people.
Most guys don’t have a post-workout shake and still wonder why they're not gaining muscle as quickly.
Most guys can't cook.
Most guys only get laid a couple of times per year. And if it's more, most guys screw the same manipulative, bitchy girlfriend who has their balls in a vise grip.
Most guys sit on their ass all day and waste time watching trashy sitcoms.
Most guys haven't opened a book since high school.
Most guys can't deadlift their own body weight.
Most guys don’t even know what a deadlift is.
Most guys back down when they need to stand strong and make up with bombast and ego when they need to feel worthwhile.
Most guys act tough when they feel threatened.
Most guys work a job they hate.
Most guys live a life they hate, or worse, a life they quietly tolerate.
Most guys are sheep who settle for what was given to them.
Most guys don't know their families well.
Most guys hesitate and miss their chance to talk a beautiful girl.
Most guys don't know what they're doing tomorrow.
Most guys have no idea how good a top-notch bourbon, glass of malbec, or a craft beer really tastes.
Most guys are looking for the bigger, better deal and don't live in the present.
Most guys don't travel outside of their city, state, or country.
Most guys make excuses for everything.
Most guys react to every situation.
Most guys give us a bad name.
Most guys survive.
Don't be most guys.
Thrive.

(clapping).
Nothing to add that was flawless. -
Hey, Nate, your workouts were recommended by some guys I trust; I get BFS this week and I'm looking forward to it.
But you call me "Slick" again and I'm mailing that sucker back to you with some very unflattering comments and drawings of you inside.
Okay then. Take 'er easy. -

Nate,
Ok man, so I thought you were just another "t-nation" writer... now after reading this blog post (first one of yours I've read)... we see eye to eye on damn near everything.
I'll be back :)

good stuff
all it takes is for a guy To Want To Look Good AND see some change happening as a result of diet and hard lifting.
To bad that for many men the concept of a changed/improved diet is not fully understood as a way to get to a good looking body (and exercise too).
works for me -
Hey Nate,
That was a great interview on t-nation with Chris Bell. "Bigger, Faster, Stronger" is an excellent movie for those who haven't seen it. I feel that steriods may not be as life threatening as alcohol or tobacco, but shouldn't be allowed in sports so athletes can cheat. I want to have strong powerlifting and o'lifting numbers but they will always be relatively low since I won't use steriods.

I must admit, I was, and still am in very few of these aspects, one of these guys. Things are changing! Very motovational! Really... What more can you say?

It's clearly that you work pretty hard on projecting an image for everybody to see and agree with. You talk a lot about distinguishing yourself and making you sound like you are different from everybody else, but you clearly you are still masqueraded. I can see that you are pretty obsessive over your own performance, and you think that maybe if everybody agrees with your performance you can go on with your self-deceptive life and keep putting on that mask. This works only in the Symbolic realm where everybody is masqueraded to keep themselves blind from the Real. Get in touch with the Real, and you will see, that yourself and everybody else who you fooled with your performance will break down and become fragmented.

One word.
Brilliant. -
Okay, I am a woman and have 3 sons, ages 28 to 20. I am hoping that they are NOT like "Most guys" that you write about. I have taught them that what they do in life is reflective of themselves, how they handle any situation a good or bad or indifferent, in all the topics that you wrote on, family, money, relationships, etc. and let us not forget the Deadlift, (which they and I know what that is).
On another topic; you wrote the last book, "Built for Show" for gentlemen. I am interested in you saying that you may write a book for the female counterpart. I find each new year to bring on the challenge of hormone changes, whether from general aging or by surgical means along with the metabolism changes from aging. And, in the current book when you asked ladies what they looked at in their gentlmen, I can hardly wait to see what guys are looking for in a female body, in all age ranges from 18 to 80. -
@LJ
It sounds like your boys are growing up well and have a kick-ass mom!
If sales of Built for Show continue to as well as they are now, then a female's version would definitely be in the works!
-Nate -
OK, I'll go with "kick-ass". I will expect you to get in touch with me for the next book and since I am in the mature age range, I will allow you to try several of your training instructions with me. Instead of the "Jason Lengstorf Experiment" lets see-"The Kick-ass Mother Experiment", "Foxy Mother Experiment", Secret Training Tips from Kick-Ass Foxy Mothers Experiment" (Foxy is a state of Mind. Believing in yourself is good character trait.)

I love this stuff man. I bought the book last weekend and have almost read through the whole thing. Great work, and i love the post.
-
Nate,
New to your blog but I am enjoying your content. Great stuff. Really loved the list above....especially when it ends with "don't be like most men". It's the kick iin the ass we all need as sometimes we are just getting swept up in a world of mediocrity. We need the kick to remember we are capable of so much more and only limited by what we think and believe. Sometimes I need to remember to "live the life others would be envious of". Thanks for the kick.

"Most guys react to every situation."
How are you different? You have reacted to every miserable(for you) situation any guy or girl might be in (whatever maybe the cause/reason/excuse).
As long as you have given training tips its fine, but if this is your view of life "Most guys have absolutely no idea what kind of body women find attractive" who would want a strength training tip from you? well a lot bcos "most" are like you.
Is there a singular "kind" of body women find attractive? if so what "kind" of women are they?
"most guys act tough when feeling threatened" what would you expect if you're really pressed onto such a situation?? u mean acting tough isn't being tough or something like that? what about recruitment of your confidence before recruiting all those motor units you put in a deadlift pulling motion.of course u need to self validate that you must be ready to handle a situation if threatened. What would you be doing, sit on your ass and act cool??
"Most guys work a job they hate. " so if they have to do to survive for sometime for a better future (until they find a job they love ) which means they would be making most of the present to do that ...what would you recommend??
and to tell you the truth most guys do their best in any given situation (which means everyones learning by doing) even if they don't want to they are learning lessons of life.
It isn't that most guys would comprise of all of the above bullets as prescribed by Zen master Nate....for ex some may not care to "know what "kind" of a body women find attractive" and yet "oogle at women they'd never have a chance with" and still don't "miss their chance to talk a beautiful girl." and yet "know how to cook" and still not "travel outside of their city, state, country" and yet "know their families well" and still "react to every situation" and still might make "most of the present" and might as well can deadlift their bodyweight . In short u SUCK and you know why . u should keep ur wisdom to ur self.
yes i am most of those guys who will work a job he hates to survive and be positive about a better life and work on plans for tomorrow but no am not most of those "sheep" who would settle for the shit that you have offered on this page. If you have taken responsibility to take a "bad name" to urself bcos of "most guys" then you might as well get real and talk responsibly giving real solutions to real problems and tell them how could they make a good name for you.its all about you isn't it?? -
Dude... chill out.
-
jesus, Most guys who really need this advice are too stubborn to even listen
-
HAHA..This was awesome Nate..
And the dude that got all worked up..think his name was....'SLICK'.....why?
'Most guys's need to F IN relax!'...This was funny shit!
Keep it rockin Nate! -
You forgot to add:
Most guys listen to Coldplay -
Hey Nate...you ever read Psycho-cybernetics? Great book! Even if you haven't, it seems as though you're already using a lot of the principles discussed in it.
Good stuff, man!
Keep it up. -
Most guys agree with this list. (because its written for most guys)
Most guys dont think they belong on this list
You are most guys -
Nothing more to be said. That was amazing (especially that I have some intense motivating thinking music playing in my ears)
Thank you very much Nate,
certainly an eye opener -
Hey Nate,
thanks for all the great work. I really liked BFS, The Hero Handbook and pretty much anything from you on T-Nation and on your blog.
I just wanted to thank you especially for this post. It is one of the two most motivational speeches I read respectively watch from time to time. The second one is a speech from Will Smith talking about the key to life.
Definitely worth to watch.

So, thanks a lot, Nate!
Keep up the great work!
