Hey guys, Nate here. I'm proud to announce that I'm now the Program Director of Scrawny To Brawny. From now on all of my blogs and articles will be posted on the brand-new Scrawny To Brawny Blog. So if you enjoyed what you read here, please go check it out. (It's awesome, if I say so myself.) I'm keeping the NGE website alive for resource reasons, but will no longer be actively updating it. The best way to get in touch with me is through leaving a comment on the Scrawny To Brawny blog or by posting on the S2B Facebook page. See you guys over at the new blog!
Educate Yourself and Don't Be That Guy
This guy did NOT get jacked by using a fucking bosu ball
Bosu balls are evil! Wobble boards will injure you! Balance discs will rape your mother, steal your stereo, and take the last Coke Zero out of the fridge, the bastards.
All right, not really.
But these "functional" tools may do you more harm than good. (In fact, there's a good chance that if you're a healthy guy or work with healthy clients you're just wasting a ton of time with the balance stuff.)
My friend and respected strength coach Eric Cressey is here to set the record straight and help you (or your clients, if you're a trainer) sift through all the bullshit.
His newest book,The Truth About Unstable Surface Training, is the culmination of more than three years of research, experimentation and analysis.
(That means it's some smart, interesting stuff that works.)
In it, he goes over the following (and a whole lot more):
- How unstable surfaces alter muscular recruitment patterns - and how you can use those alterations to your advantage or disadvantage
-The actual science - and research data - that justifies or refutes specific uses of unstable surface training
- 21 different stability progression models encompassing over 50 exercises with photos and descriptions
- How to train balance for maximum functional
carryover and superior athletic performance
Functional training, stability, and overall health and performance may not be as sexy as, say, being Built for Show.
But you can't be built for show if the rest of your body blows.
Go pick up a copy.
And thank Cressey for being so damn smart!
