Hey guys, Nate here. I'm proud to announce that I'm now the Program Director of Scrawny To Brawny. From now on all of my blogs and articles will be posted on the brand-new Scrawny To Brawny Blog. So if you enjoyed what you read here, please go check it out. (It's awesome, if I say so myself.) I'm keeping the NGE website alive for resource reasons, but will no longer be actively updating it. From A to Z on my iPod

I want a gold iPod... I want a gold iPod...

People who only listen to one genre of music remind me of the guys who never leave their home state or country -- boring.

My iPod is full of motivating, cheery, strange, sad, introspective, harsh, soft, bouncy, bass-heavy, acoustic music. And depending on where I am and what I'm doing, I usually have something to bob my head to, get lost in, or let drown into the background.

So, from A to Z, I present you with assorted artists from each letter of the alphabet that's on my iPod. (Except for Q, V, X, Y or Z. Apparently I don't like those letters.) I also list where you'd most likely find me while the music is on.

Some good music choices Nate. Lupe Fiasco is a juggernaut. Some others:

    -Anything by Billy Joel

-Bob Sinclair (dance music, yes, but great dance music)

-Matisyahu (he is awesome, check out Close My Eyes studio version first..incredible)

-Check out Sleeping Sickness by City and Colour (great driving song)

-I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my brother (http://www.myspace.com/jcmahrock) . He's pretty good too.

-Al Di Meola- jazz fusion, great guitarist

-Regina Spektor- chick rock to the extreme, but fun to listen to on occassion. Very creative pop music

    -Imogen Heap- great, techno-influenced pop

    -Tommy Emmanuel- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAeHhYHwIZ8

Other than that I listen to a lot of www.pandora.com with a techno station. Chemical brothers, etc. Lots of metallica ends up on my playlists--if you haven't checked out their newest album, it's worth a listen.

I also rock a lot of art music--20th Century is more my thing. Love Shostakovich, Leo Brouwer, Rachmaninoff, others. I also listen to a lot of classical/acoustic guitar music. Check out CandyRat records channel on youtube for some great guitar playing:

-Wilco - Cooking, cleaning, or doing chores around the house

    -Rush - Pondering awesomeness

    Oh, one more:

-Explosions in the Sky - Making my life feel more important than it is (the tv show Friday Night Lights mainly uses their music. Try brewing coffee to it. It'll feel like the most important and dramatic cup of coffee you've ever had.)

Here are some bands to fill in your missing letters

Q-Queen. Come on? Fat Bottom Girls is a great song!

V-Vetiver-Soft, awesome music for being with the ladies.

Alternatively, the Violent Femmes for when you want to rock out early 90's style.

X-Xiu Xiu. DISCLAIMER-His music is eclectic and sometimes depressing. It's an interesting listen.

Y-Yeah Yeah Yeah's-chick vocals, strong music. High energy awesome.

Z-The Zutons-I don't know how to describe them other than punk meets the Brian Setzer Orchestra and kicks him and his orchestra's ass.

One thing I found that helped me expand my musical tastes was a website called Pandora.com. You type in a song or an artist you like and it will play that song or artist. Then it plays a song that has similar qualities. It does it forever. You can set up 'radio stations' based off of bands/songs/genres and listen to your hearts content. Best of all, it's free.

I forgot to add some other bands to check out. (please forgive the list, but I love to share good music)

A-Architecture in Helsinki: If you took a children's story book and turned it into an band, this would be that book.

B-Broken Social Scene: Great anytime music. Sometimes has vocals, sometimes it doesn't. Best served when chilling out, making out, or cooking.

C-Cat Power: Sexy female vocals. Relaxing or being with your lady.

D-Domine: Italian metal. Very, very epic.

E-Elliot Smith: Soulfoul indy/rock. Relaxing or cooking.

F-Feist: Fun female vocals. Catchy and upbeat.

G-Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Post-Rock. Umm... Just listen.

H-Hieroglyphics: Del tha Funky Homosapian's group. Hip Hop that gets you pumped.

I-Interpol: Indy Rock. Good for cooking, hanging out or driving.

J-Jackie-O Motherfucker: More post-rock. Quiet music that is good background noise for cooking and stuff.

K-Kings of Leon: This is what you get when you are a traveling pentacostal minister and you take your kids with you. Fast-paced awesome rock.

L-Lupe Fiasco (you already said this one)

M-Manowar: This metal group is so hard, they can cut diamonds.

N-Nick Drake: Old School (think 70's) male vocals. Excellent music for chilling out with some scotch or bourbon, or your lady.

O-Of Montreal: Kind of interesting 'pop' rock. Maybe driving?

    P-Portisehead: Trip-hoppy? Electronica with a sexy-female vocal.

    Q-Queen

R-The Roots: True Hip-Hop. Anytime music.

S-Sigur Ros: Icelandic music at it's finest. The lead guitarist uses a bow (for a violin I believe) to play his guitar. Deep, soul-touching music. Dinner, relaxing, dreaming, pondering, girlfriend time music.

T-Ted Leo and the Pharmacists: Pop-Rock that gets you moving. Lot's of fun while driving and running.

U-The Unicorns: Hard to find, but kind of silly and irreverent music. Driving music.

See my above post for V-Z

W-Wolf Parade: Umm... I don't know. Rock? I just like them.

I am so glad that you put Underoath, and I think it's hilarious that you put pretty much everything for when to listen to them. Fantastic stuff... and I'm listening to it now.

Nice list Nate. Very well rounded. I liked reading Kyle Hibler's list above, hilarious.

Here are a few must haves, for real, how could not have some 2pac. Too many to choose from, but here are a few must haves:

    For workouts:

2Pac-"No more Pain" If you really listen to his words, truer words have never been spoken. If this song doesn't get you hype for a workout, I'm not sure what will. The beat alone makes you want to throw some iron around.

2Pac-"All Eyez on Me" "Picture Me Rollin"

E-Eminem "Soldier" "Til I Collapse" "Lose Yourself"

P-Prodigy. Smack my B-tch up. That song alone will get you through a few sets of power cleans.

L-Lil Scrappy feat Young Buck "Money in the Bank"

O-Outkast "Bombs Over Bagdad" About to run stairs? Put this song on.

    Feeling old music:

B-Beatles...anything by the Beatles is classic...and makes you feel old

    Sexy time with the Mrs:

S-Sade..anything by Sade, but "By Your Side" in particular

N-Norah Jones. Any song by her, beautiful voice.

    Cooking:

C-Clay Aiken......I'm kidding. I don't listen to music while cooking.

I'm gonna throw out some stuff in honor of the t-nation interview with Dave.

H- Hank Williams Jr. I've listened to Hank Jr. for several years and just recently found out that Hank Jr. is one of Dave's favorite artists. Listen to "Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound"...it will put hair on your yam sack. True country...good drinkin music, but may take some people a long time to get used to.

I- Ice Cube ft Snoop Dogg and Lil Jon. I'm not much of a rap connoisouer, but Dave Tate was listening to the song "Go To Church" while driving to the "compound" in one of his youtube videos. The song was also playing inside the "compound" on another video. Pretty badass song to listen to while training, and since it was Dave Tate listening to it, the song automatically gets 1000 testosterone points.
