The Nate Green Experience

My Favorite Smoothies

Second time's a charm! Second time's a charm!

(Note from Nate: Unfortunately I had a minor freak-out a few days go when my entire database crashed. But thanks to the hard work of my web guy and also my friend Sascha, the site is back up and I'm posting the smoothie blog again. Sorry about the comment loss!)

My favorite shakes courtesy of Precision Nutrition:

The Popeye Smoothie

1 cup frozen raspberries
1 cup spinach
1 cup low-fat plain yogurt
½ cup low-fat milk
¼ cup cashews
2 scoops strawberry Metabolic Drive

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend on high till smooth and creamy.

And yeah, I know what you're thinking. "Spinach in a protein shake? Are you freaking kidding me?"

I felt the same way till I tried it. Trust me.

Matcha Green Tea Smoothie

1 tsp matcha green tea
¼ cup hot water
½ banana
½ cup coconut milk
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
½ cup low-fat plain yogurt
1 scoop Vanilla Metabolic Drive
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups of ice

Add matcha to 2 tbsp of hot water. Mix with a fork until matcha is completely dissolved. Add remaining hot water stirring constantly. Combine all ingredients and blend on high until smooth and creamy.

And one more just for shits and giggles...The T-BOMB!

I have to apologize to my friend Dan Fern for this one. A few years ago we were both skinny kids looking to gain weight. So we came up with the T-Bomb shake. It was hell to drink, but it sure packed in the calories. Make this at your own peril. And don't blame us if you can't finish it, Nancy Boy!

If memory serves...

1 cup of uncooked oats
1 cup of cottage cheese
1 banana
2-3 scoops of chocolate Metabolic Drive protein
1 heaping tablespoon of natural peanut butter
Enough water to not make it thick as shit

Drink directly out of blender while watching Pumping Iron and high-fiving.

So whatcha got for me? Hook me up with some more protein recipes in the comments. (I'm looking at you, J.C.)

Glad to see this back! Good work Jason.

Based on a post here, last night I tried:

    4 cubes frozen spinach

    5 frozen strawberries

half a cup of cottage cheese

1 scoop (50g) of banana split whey

    little water

    Blend like hell.

First time putting veg in a shake, it tasted fantastic, and a much much better option than plain whey/water/fruit.

A twist on the classic chocolate-peanut butter shake

    1 cup water

    1 scoop chocolate whey

    1 cup cottage cheese

    1 tbsp natural peanut butter

    1 tbsp cocoa powder

    1 tbsp instant espresso

Something I've found to help the taste of some chocolate whey powders is a tbsp of cocoa powder, especially Ghirardelli. I don't spend a lot of money on my protein so I sacrifice taste, but the cocoa powder has helped a ton. As does the instant espresso.

    Vanilla Berry Preworkout Engergizer

10z of Skim Plus Milk (best tasting skim milk I've ever had-better than regular milk)

2 Scoops of Muscle Milk Light Vanilla Creme

1 Teaspoon of 100% Creatine Monohydrate

3/4 cup of mixed frozen berries (less if you want to make it a little less thick)

Put them in the blender in that order, because for whatever reason it doesn't blend well for me if I don't, and enjoy. I usually workout early in the morning, and it gives me a good boost and sustained energy to power through the workout if I have it about 30 minutes before getting to the gym.
