Yeah, it's a long video (7 minutes) but if you want to see what a few days' worth of groceries look like and pick up a few helpful nutrition tips, you should give it a watch.

And if you haven't already, go check out my interview with Dave Tate.

And for some realistic nutrition advice and a full years' worth of programming, check out Built for Show.

    Nate, last Saturday when I was in the "city", I had a few hours to kill so I went to an Indigo's bookstore midtown Toronto. I found a copy of your book there, read about 1/3 of it, and decided to buy it. Now, I'm onto the last two chapters of the book. Great stuff in the book! I even appreciated your humour; at times, I tried not to laugh too loud in such a public place, in a busy book store.

    This morning, I saw that you had a new blog and was intrigued to see what you had to say. Then, I realized that your video clip isn't closed captioned. Being a resourceful guy that I try to be, I tried to sumbit the videoclip at SubPLY (www.subply.com) to get free closed captioning, but the video clip exceeds the SubPLY's rule of accepting Youtube clips that are 5 minutes or less. So, I'm wondering if you're able to provide a transcript of what you said in the video so that it is made accessible for those who are Deaf, Deafened, and Hard of Hearing.

    Would you be able to do that for us?

    Hey Jonathan,

    I appreciate the note and for you trying to get the clip close captioned.

    While I don't have the time to go through and transcribe the video, I did want to point you here: http://thenategreenexperience.com/blog/What%27s+In+Your+Fridge%3F

    Make sure to read the comments because you'll definitely pick up some great advice.

    And from now on, I'll take the 5-minute rule into consideration! Thanks again.

    If you like Fat Tire step it up a notch and check out Rogue Ale's, Dead guy and American Amber.

    All of Rogue's ales are unfiltered and as pure as the spring water they are made with. Really great and delicious cloudy/complex beers that have a tremendous depth of flavor. In comparison with Fat Tire the American Ale is comparable and maybe a tab bit more interesting in a good way... Sweet deal with the cans though.

    Nate, your fridge contents are a thing of beauty. I'm almost too fascinated by what graces the grocery lists of others. And by the way, Cara Cara oranges are in the navel orange family, if I remember right..

    P.S. Hi Grandpa Green!

    Nate,

    Thanks for the link to an older blog that talks about the same kind of topic in text. I'll have a serious look at it when things in my life settle down a bit more.

    And, thanks for considering to keep your clips under 5 minutes long. If it's going to be more than 5 minutes long, perhaps you can think about having a part 1 that's 5 minutes long and a part 2 that's 5 minutes long or less.

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

    really interesting video, Nate..

    I was wondering, could you give me a list on how and when exactly you eat all that for one day? like 8am breakfast: oatmeal with blueberries and metabolic drive, 10am ......

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Nate, if you really want to know what mass produced chickens have been eating go read The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. It's not a quick read, and may make you loose your lunch.

    @J.C

    Good call! Rogue is actually one of my favorite breweries. And while I like Dead Guy ale, I'm in love with the Hazelnut Brown Nectar.

    @J.Green

    You are the coolest grandpa ever. Thanks for reading my blog. And I'll check into the comment problem.

    @Jaya

    I've got to tell you, I still eat the "snack" once per week. Everyone, listen up. Try mixing cottage cheese, natural peanut butter, chopped apple and crushed walnuts and almonds into a bowl. Eat and enjoy.

    @Tom

    Check out my expert profile on John Berardi's site for an idea on my eating schedule. Here's the link: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/expert-profile-nate-green

    @ Carl

    Thanks for the note! I actually read The Omnivore's Dilemma a few months ago. Very interesting and the real reason on why I buy grass-fed beef now.

    Thanks for all the comments guys.

    All great foods. $154 for groceries that will last 4 days. That is the price we all pay for health. I spend about that much each week as well. It's sad that eating healthy is so expensive.

    Hey Nate,

    Love your website man. I have been following you since you were featured on super trainer. Yeah that shopping is pretty hardcore and seriously expensive. I live in NYC and its insane! Its worth it though. Anyway keep up with the great work and that was an incredible 57 inch box jump! Amazing.

    Hey Nate,

    I just bought your book and plan on starting your plan this week, but I have one question. I know I'm supposed to be resting on my days off but most weekends I go rock climbing and sometimes during the week I do a bit of trail running. Do I need to adjust my lifting schedule to allow for sufficient recovery?

    Nate Green 7:07pm Feb 5, 2009

    @JMJ

    But you can get three candy bars for .99!

    @Ryan

    Hey. Shut up. :)

    Nah, I'm in a small apartment right now but I'm getting ready to buy a house. We'll see how it goes later this year.

    @Gaby

    Thanks for the note! I was just in NYC a week ago and had a great time.

    @Josh

    Thanks for buying the book, man. I really appreciate it.

    The purpose of Built For Show is to enhance your life and not detract. So if you love rock climbing and trail running, go ahead and do it. Eat a little more on those days and try not to do anything too strenuous right after a lifting day.

    Good god you're a beautiful man.

    Sorry, were you talking through that clip....?!

    Nothing quite like a fridge full of fresh food to make one feel instantly healthier...and there's added incentive to eat fresh first as it only lasts so long and I hatehatehate wasting food.

    I respect your knowledge and discipline. However, I'm disappointed in your reference to the rainbow as being "fruity." It makes you sound homophobic. Maybe you are?!
