Thanks to the lessons I've learned from mentors, conversations with amazing people, and trial and error, I've developed a list of rules and action steps to live a remarkable life. And I put them all in the Hero Handbook.

Here's what you'll learn:

Here's what I've done over the past few years:

The Hero Handbook – Made For You

Look, I've spent the past few years reading, traveling, and doing. I've built the life of my dreams, and I did it with a lot of help. I'm offering that same kind of help to you.

I've had beers with people who say they want to get their shit together, build a great body, travel, and be successful.

They tell me all they need is a little direction. A little advice.

The Hero Handbook is my advice to them and to you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Awesome on this being free. One question: will there ever be a print version? I really like print stuff better, and would be willing to pay for it. Thanks!

Thanks for the note, man. Honestly, I had a lot of fun writing Built for Show and having it distributed world-wide by Penguin, but I really wanted to be able to reach more people and give this away for free. That's why it's in an e-book format.

Still, you gotta admit the artwork (and the content) is pretty legit. :)

Nate - thank you for your generosity by offering your book gratis.

Having only read a small part of the book, I've realized one very important thing: I already do some of the actions that heros do. It's important to receive affirmation of the things we do correctly and to know which ones we need to work on more. Again, thanks Nate, and I'm looking forward to diving into the book.

    Yo Nate,

Seriously??? I really want to get into ya head and heart right now and ask you a question.

    WHY???

How could you do something like this for real?

I understand the concept of moving the free line and stuff like that if that is why you did it.

And props to you for taking the step necessary for you to do it. But I still want to ask you how you were able to be the person you had to be to give it away.

Most people would not do this and others who do also would give it away might hesitate and do it anyway such as myself but would do it anyway as a gift to our readers.

But can you please explain how you were influenced, came up with the decision to give it away and how and what feelings did you have at first and during and after the decision???

I think answering this question would also fit in with The Handbook because regardless of the answer that you give as long as its the truth......it still sends the right message to your readers regardless of any feelings you might have gone through that made you question whether you were making the right decision.

Nevertheless, thank you much for the book. I will read it completely.

Just finished the book. Awesome stuff dude. One of my favorite parts was the "power position". If you've got your finances under your belt, you're unafraid to step up and meet the sometimes unconventional challenges. Im about to link this to facebook. Hopefully a few others can get something from it.

Nate, you continue to release quality stuff.

I read Built for Show and loved the writing and honest, applicable advice. When I sat down to read The Hero Handbook I expected the same standard of quality.

I have finished reading it, and I must say that you deliver. A lot of this stuff you have talked about for a while (e.g. plan your perfect day, organize your week), but some of this stuff is new to me (e.g. Memento Mori). And all of it is helpful, honest advice.

I don't know how you found time to write a book and a workout program and release the book for free, but I am really glad you did.

    Be Heroic.

    hey Nate,

In the past two years I have had everything I had in my life utterly destroyed and after reaching rock bottom I have been rebuilding it all. Many many lessons have been learned during these two years - positive and negative lessons. As you say, there is no new information. The reason I read your blog is because it's a good reminder of things. I believe your book does just that. It reminds us of things we probably know but have forgotten.

    So... thanks for the reminders.

    Nate,

I just wanted to take a second and thank you for providing tremendous value to the world and living a life of purpose.

So many people are afraid to live their true life because of the rules of conformity that attack at an early age. I was locked in this world myself at one point. Three years ago I decided to start doing things my way and have never looked back.

I believe the simplicity and power of your content in the Hero Handbook will re-open a lot of eyes. I read it all yesterday and absolutely loved it.

    Thanks again!

    Hey Nate,

Nice e-book! Wanted to follow up on your supplement choices. One of your goals is to eat organic, natural food. Is Metabolic Drive and Biotest surge consistent with this goal? Both are filled with some very unnatural ingredients -- certaintly not real food. Was wondering why you choose those products over organic, raw proteins (like Sun Warrior). Curious to get your thoughts, as I recently ditched the Biotest stuff for this very reason.

Sun Warrior is a good protein option, too. Still, I prefer the whey/casein blend of Metabolic Drive.

A few things come to my mind after having the pleasure of reading this book....

Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.—Ralph Waldo Emerson

In the absence of clearly-defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it.—Robert Heinlein

The things you own end up owning you.—Chuck Palahniuk

When you feel in your gut what you are and then dynamically pursue it - don't back down and don't give up - then you're going to mystify a lot of folks.—Bob Dylan

Every moment of one's existence one is growing into more or retreating into less.—Norman Mailer

All exemplified in the Hero Handbook....

    Outstanding Nate.

Thanks a lot for your latest publication. I got built for show and was impressed, not just by the simplicity of your workout that yields great results, but your no nonsense approach to getting what you really want to get in life. Keep up the good work Nate.

Nate, lead a group of 23 guys right now that are doing a great job in all their different goals, but this will be a must read. Could not stop flipping the pages and was done in no time so now I'm going back to all the "What Do I Do Now", simple, common sense, easy to read , and funny as hell in spots kinda book, perfect for me and my guys.....Thanks Nate!

    Nate,

I think you come across as a great guy and without doubt you're an inspiration to countless guys (myself included) on how to make the most of your ability and grab life by the balls.

But - to the hordes of "Thanks man, this is like totally what I need" responses from names who are regularly commenting on your blogs, PAY SOME FUCKING ATTENTION to the blogs you've been reading!

If you've read Built For Show, if you've read every one of Nate's blogs on this website and checked out sites he has recommended (Tim Ferriss' for example) nothing mentioned in the Hero Handbook should be new to you. You shouldn't fall under the coward category, you should be a hero already.

Apologies if I'm being harsh, just think that if you've been following Nate's work for 6 months, a year, 2 years or whatever but still haven't found the inspiration to be your own hero then you need a bigger kick up the arse than Nate's new book.

Paul, I appreciate the note but tone down the negativity a bit. No need to belittle people. How are YOU doing on becoming your own hero? Got everything figured out?

I'm sure you're kicking ass, but there's always room for improvement.

Anyway, man, thanks for writing. I'm glad you liked the book.

    But let's keep this positive.

    Thanks,

    Nate

    Hey Nate,

Earlier this week, Chase had posted something about your latest e-book on his Facebook page or Twitter. I found myself thinking, "it's been ages since I read a book by Nate Green". Then, I realized that it's been since January of 2008 when I last read your book, the Built for Show book. So, I made a goal to read this book sometimes this weekend.

I just finished reading it. I really enjoyed it. I liked your humour, your writing, and your challenges to be introspective. I've completed the first "What to do now" section and will tackle the remaining ones after I post this.

Reading your e-book made me realized how much I've grown and changed since I first read your Built for Show book. I recognized many of the lessons and tidbits of information that I have integrated into my daily life in the past two years. It's been barely two years ago and yet, I barely recognize myself, physically, mentally, and spiritually. In that time, I've gone from being 160lbs at 6' 1.25" to being 205lbs. I am now more confident, assured, and focussed than ever. I'm looking forward to what the future brings.

Thank you, Nate, for jump-starting this transformation and for encouraging me to keep improving. I have to pick up the habit of drinking a gallon of water per day and a few other ideas that you shared.

    Sorry Nate,

Reading my post back I agree it's come across as very negative and I didn't intend to belittle anyone. My intention was to provoke a response (a good one!) in anyone who reads your stuff, feels inspired for five minutes, then continues as they have been and don't implement any of your advice. I realise it didn't come across this way and to anyone I might have offended, I apologise.

Regarding the bit about how I'm becoming my own hero; your're right, there's ALWAYS room for improvement, but I hope I'm getting there.

I'm financially secure, I've gained 30lbs of muscle in about 2 years, I've got a great group of friends and inspired by the likes of Brian St Pierre I've worked my arse off studying science at nightschool with the goal of going back to university to study nutrition and dietetics (and have recently been offered a place to start later this year).

As cliched as it is, if I can do it, anyone can

    Nate,

I cannot thank you enough for making The Hero Handbook FREE. I read through it in 2 nights after work, and it gave me a lot to think about.

I really took the section on financial planning to heart. I started photographing all of my receipts with my phone a couple weeks ago to keep track of all of my purchases and hold myself more accountable for my financial position.

I have no money saved up, and it has really started to piss me off because I am working my ass off. I decided to man up and take control of my situation.

The Handbook came to me at a perfect time in my life. I opened an online savings account through ING Direct yesterday, and I am going to make it a habit to "pay myself first" from now on.

    Excellent work, man.

Hi Nate, First I gotta say Please make T-Shirts for this at least, I and many really want one! :) I spotted my boyfriend checking out your hero handbook and I just had to immediately get a hold of it myself, and I can't stop reading it. It amazes me that there's other people out there who view life the same way I do, so thanks for making that clear in the book. You have given me the extra push that I needed to make this day and every other following better than the last. I'll always try to share this book with anyone who needs guidance. Keep doing what you do, you are special and for writing all that & I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a wonderful day! :)

Needless to say I sometimes think(more than I would like to admit) that I have wasted more than a quarter of my life. The last fourteen not so much. That is how long I have been a Gran. Thanks for the freebie I am sure It will be enlighting...Also reading the four hour body..

Someone mentioned above that you wrote this toward twenty-something males, but as a 54-yr. old male, I can say there are still things in "Hero" everyone should read. People may not agree with every word (I don't think I've met the person yet with whom I'll agree on everything!), but you have put down some very good insights in what I've read so far, and I will finish every word of this FREE resource! Thanks!

Thanks for the Hero book and emails Nate. I've found it very useful, and there's so much in it I keep going back to it for more. I found it on Alwyn's site under pay it forward, and so now I'm trying to do my bit by passing this on to friends who I think will enjoy the read (made me laugh in places) and who may find the tips useful themselves.

Some of it is revelatory to me - but simple enough I can implement immediately, other bits will take a bit longer ...

    Thanks again :-)

I'm a mom and I may differ from many of your subscribers, but I love the Handbook! The living-impaired info. is spot-on and I think it's a perfect description for discouraging people. And, setting a kitchen timer.....I should do this more often because I work best when I have a deadline. Great recommendation! The "Find Someone Who has Already Done It" particularly applies to me now because I'm getting ready to launch my own book, website and blog and I'm trying to learn from people who are already successful. As I've once heard, "success leaves clues."

Working with female clients, I notice so often that their posture is way off.....I'll be using the directions for the upright posture for sure, too!

Thanks, again! I really liked the book and I'm going to do my job of paying it forward targeting moms.
